Holidays

I wait

In the car

The bright sunshine

Causes me to squint

My lovers inside

With his family

He says

It’s only a couple of hours

Go have a drink

But I never move

The seconds tick on

I am left with my memories

Of family and friends

Who once welcomed

Now they shun

I tell myself

At least his family

Still loves him

You can’t take that away

Don’t be selfish

It’s only one day

Yet here and now

My words ring hollow

Why does it have to be this way
